NATIONAL CONCERNS REGARDING BROMINATED FLAME RETARDANTS

NORTON, OHIO - January, 2006 – Currently, 14 states have enacted, or are considering, legislation to ban specific brominated flame retardants. Numerous scientific studies have found that certain brominated flame retardants have leached into groundwater from landfills, leading to situations where the suspect compounds have been detected in the human bloodstream. Based on a solid and extensive body of scientific evidence, many states are now being proactive by restricting the usage of these compounds. The chemical compounds are generally called BPE’s (brominated diphenyl ethers), or PBPE’s (polybrominated diphenyl ethers), and the specific compounds under the threat of a ban are penta-BPE’s, octa-BPE’s, and deca-BPE’s. They are commonly used in electronic applications, and sometimes in polyurethane foam formulations.

Inquiries about our products and their relation to this issue may arise. In an attempt to keep our customers and the industry informed, Fomo Products, Inc. would like to provide the assurance that all products we manufacture are BPE-free, and as a result are not, and will not, be affected by future legislation. All of our formulations, including our E-84 Class 1 foams, are BPE and Formaldehyde free, and will continue to be so in the future.
